6 tools every Social Media Manager needs

Social media busybodies everywhere know that having the right tools for the job is vital. Like many creative professions, they need to be organised, up-to-date, and ready to go at a moment’s notice. It also means that they need to be ready to try out any new software that might make their lives a bit easier.

Not every new scheduling or social listening tool that enters the market makes its way into a Social Media Manager’s repertoire, but these are some of the gadgets and gizmos us social guys at Together Agency can’t live without.

Hootsuite

A large portion of any Social Media Manager’s day is scheduling content. Whether that’s for their house account or for a client, a tool like Hootsuite is vital for keeping everything in one place and easy to keep on top of. Whether you’re looking to queue up content for the coming month or view any mentions or messages across your accounts, Hootsuite can help you out.

Canva

Sometimes, you’re going to need to make quick content. This could be for a one-off tweet about some timely event, or it could be adding an image into a pre-existed, branded template. Canva’s easy-to-use interface has us raving about it, so much so that this isn’t the first time we’ve blogged about our love the tool.

Google Drive

In the past, we’ve planned our content on individual Word Documents and emailed them over to anyone who needs to add, tweak, or change anything. The problem with this method is that at any one time, there can be multiple versions of one plan, and ultimately things get messy. With Google Drive, everything is in one place, can be edited by whoever you choose, and updates everyone automatically when any changes are made. It’s perfect for any team of social media-ites who are sharing the load.

Facebook Scheduling

Using Facebook’s in-house scheduling tool used to be a lifesaver in the days before Hootsuite updated their settings to allow automatic images. Nowadays, there isn’t much difference between using Facebook or Hootsuite to schedule your Facebook content, but we figured that you can’t go wrong using Facebook’s native tools.

Buzzsumo

Have you ever needed to read up on something but found it near impossible to find a reputable source? This is where Buzzsumo comes in – even using the free version turns up the top-ranking articles for whatever you’ve searched. They make it easy to see how many times an article has been shared and even lets you view a few of the top people who have shared it. Having this insight into shares and influencers is great for sourcing good, reliable content.

Trello

Working as a team is great, but organising a team? That’s a lot less fun. Trying to keep on top of everyone who’s involved, what they need to do, when it needs to be done by, and what they’ve already completed, takes times away from focusing on your own tasks. Trello is the saviour of teams everywhere – you can create separate boards for each person, and it’s easy to highlight deadlines and priorities, as well making it clear which tasks have been completed, which are in progress, and which are yet to begin. Simple!

Merry Christmas from Together!

If there’s one thing we like, it’s a reason to celebrate. And what’s a better reason to celebrate than Christmas?! We’ve been getting into the spirit since December began, and last week we reached the tip top of festive fun at our Christmas party.

With prosecco and nibbles on hand, we started the night with Saint Nick-olas handing out Secret Santa gifts. Some of the highlights included a fake moustache, an emergency toilet roll, and a device that lets you drink wine while lying on the ground. Ho ho ho!

Gifts given, we moved on to the first event of the night – cocktail making at one of Nottingham’s independent (and totally cool) bars, Tilt! We each had a go pouring (read: spilling), and shaking up some cocktails, and had a jolly good time. Don’t be fooled by the looks of intense concentration on our faces – we promise it was fun!

Of course, a Christmas do wouldn’t be a Christmas do without a meal. This year we decided to shun turkey and crackers for a 14″ pizza per person. What can we say, we’re a hungry bunch! Thanks to the lovely chaps at Oscar & Rosie’s, we carried on the evening with full stomachs and plenty of leftovers.

From there, we continued to office favourite, The Hockley Arts Club, where we proceeded to drink, laugh, and be merry – and a bit squashed!

It was a very merry Christmas for us at Together, and we hope it will be for you, too!
